What is contractual intermediary?
What contractual intermediary means
With contractual intermediary, Digital Tribes acts as contract and invoicing partner between you (client) and the independent IT professional.
Client → agreement + one invoice → Digital Tribes
Digital Tribes → assignment agreement → Independent IT professional
What that means in practice
- Selection — We match a senior specialist on stack, seniority and assignment.
- Assignment frame — We fix scope, outcome and duration; in a Statement of Work where it fits.
- Contracts — You contract with Digital Tribes. The specialist contracts with Digital Tribes.
- Invoicing — You periodically receive one invoice from Digital Tribes.
- Delivery — The specialist delivers independently: own approach, own tools, own planning, within the agreed assignment. Instructions cover the what (scope and outcome), not the how — there is no direction and supervision by Digital Tribes or by you as client over the way of working.
- Support — Digital Tribes remains the contact for contract, invoice and — if it does not fit — finding another specialist.
What Digital Tribes is not in this route
In this model Digital Tribes is not the employer of the specialist. The professional does not join payroll. Whether a collaboration fits independent delivery depends on the facts in practice — they must match what we agree contractually. We assess the working form per assignment, and keep doing so during the assignment: if the way of working changes, the qualification may change too.

Authorisation requirement (Wtta)
From 1 January 2027, the Netherlands introduces an admission system for parties that supply labour under the direction and supervision of a client (the Wtta). Because our specialists deliver their assignment independently — without a relationship of authority with Digital Tribes or with you as client — this form of contractual intermediary falls outside that authorisation requirement. If in practice an assignment still shows features of direction and supervision, we discuss that and adjust the working form or the assignment.
How does it work?
How an intermediary assignment runs
- 1 Intake (approx. 30 min)
What needs to happen, which stack, when, where (NL / hybrid / remote). We check whether this is a bounded assignment.
- 2 Shortlist (avg. within 5 working days)
2–3 senior specialists: profile, references, rate indication. You interview and choose.
- 3 Lock the assignment
Outcome, scope, duration, collaboration. Statement of Work where it sharpens the assignment.
- 4 Contract and invoice
You ↔ Digital Tribes. Specialist ↔ Digital Tribes. You pay one invoicing party.
- 5 Start and duration
The specialist starts. We keep the administrative and contractual side tight. Match not right? We find another specialist.
Independence and SoW
How we keep independence and the assignment sharp
- The specialist works as an independent contractor (assignment agreement).
- They decide the professional approach; you decide outcome and constraints.
- Preferably a Statement of Work: goal, deliverables, stack, what the specialist organises, what context you provide.
- Digital Tribes supports the setup; each party remains responsible for correct qualification of the collaboration.
We set up assignments carefully. Whether a collaboration fits independent delivery depends on the facts — they must match the agreement.

Prefer to contract the specialist directly?
You can. Then you choose direct freelance mediation (our second route):
- We select and introduce the specialist.
- You sign the assignment agreement directly with the specialist.
- Digital Tribes invoices a mediation fee for matching and guiding the process.
- The specialist invoices you (or your templates) directly for the work delivered.
You keep the contract relationship with the professional; we handle search, introduction and alignment — and invoice our fee separately.

- What is the difference between intermediary and direct mediation?
- Intermediary: Digital Tribes is your contract and invoicing party (one invoice). Direct mediation: you contract the specialist; Digital Tribes invoices a mediation fee.
- Is Digital Tribes the employer?
- No. The specialist works as an independent contractor. Digital Tribes is the contract and invoicing partner (intermediary) or mediator (direct route).
- Who does the work?
- The independent professional — not Digital Tribes.
- What about legislation and regulation?
- We set up assignments carefully (assignment framework, SoW where it fits, independent delivery). We do not give absolute guarantees; qualification depends on the facts. Legal/finance questions are covered in intake.
- Does contractual intermediary fall under the Wtta authorisation requirement?
